Chapter Ten

Luca let himself in a little over two hours later. He had rushed to get his work done, so he could be back there with her.

He glanced around for her as he pulled off his boots and coat and froze when he caught sight of her already in bed. His heart felt like it jumped into his throat at the sight of her curled up under his covers on his bed.

Luca walked to her side and gazed down at her. He drew in a quick breath. The thought of sleeping with her and not being able to make love to her was overwhelming to his mindset and senses. His body demanded that he cement their relationship in the most basic natural way a couple could. Bonding them together. He knew with just a few touches he could have her begging him to make love to her.

He slid his fingers on one hand through his hair, blew out a frustrated sigh, turned and walked into the bathroom. There was no way he was going to go against her wishes. He’d suffer as long as she needed to feel comfortable around him.

He took a quick miserable cold shower and put on sweat pants to sleep in before he stoked the fire for the night.

Even though it was still early, he crawled in behind her and tried to get comfortable leaving about a foot of space between them. He reached out to touch her hair that was spread out over her pillow. After several minutes of smelling her sweet scent, he closed the gap between them, careful to keep his genitals away from her. He laid one arm over her waist and relaxed. If he couldn’t make love to her, at least, he could hold her all night and be close to her.

She mumbled something in her sleep and moved her body deeper into an embrace.

Luca lay there both in heaven and hell, but thankful to God for bringing her into his life. Some higher power had to have had a hand in her being there. He would never have found her otherwise, and at the very first moment he met her while she was trying to reason with Wolf, he knew deep in his soul, she was meant for him. She was the other half of his soul.

Luca heard the pop of a log in the fire as he drifted to sleep. He subconsciously tightened his hold on her afraid she’d get away somehow. His last thought was he’d do everything in his power to keep her with him. He would promise her he would damn well do about anything to make her the happiest woman in town.

The next few days flew past, and before they knew it, the sun was shining and the roads dry enough to drive on.

The time spent together during the storm they played poker, watched a movie or were out in the barn with the horses. Anna had never been that happy, hadn’t known it was possible to feel giddy and bursting with energy.
